The Fila Brasileiro dogbreed
Fila Brasileiro Standard

There are two standards for the fila, one adopted by the FCI and one adopted by CAFIB. The FCI (or the CBKC, formerly BKC, or Brazilian Kennel Club, since the country of the breed's owner has the right to write the breed standard) has changed it several times over the years, most recently in autumn 2016 with the following: the muzzle is slightly shorter than the skull, the body length from sternum to tailbone exceeds the height at the withers by 15%. However, the CAFIB standard has remained unchanged since it was written. The organisation was set up in 1978 with the aim of saving their beloved breed from crossbreeding with alien breeds, which almost caused the loss of the fila brasileiro. Fila Brasileiro History
The history of the breed began with the discovery of Brazil (1500 by Pedro Alves Cabral). The origin of the fila is forever obscure. We do not know exactly from which breeds it may have evolved, we can only deduce from historical events and breed characteristics. The explorers and settlers who travelled there from Europe took their dogs with them and encountered conditions much harsher than those in Europe...

Fila Brasileiro Appearance
The fila brasileiro is a breed of dog in the molosser family, but differs from its relatives in many ways. It bears molossoid and bloodhound characteristics, but I would like to point out that it does not resemble any of the molossoid breeds and does not resemble the bloodhound. It is somewhere in the middle, like a "huntingmolosser" or "catching" dog. Unfortunately, the FCI does not have such a classification, although it would be preferable for a better understanding of the breed...

Fila Brasileiro Temperament
It is the character of the fila that sets it apart and distinguishes it from other breeds. It has a very developed protective instinct, which makes it a great guard dog. In some countries, the breed is restricted in its keeping and breeding. There is also a difference between the FCI standard and the CAFIB standard. The CAFIB one describes that "because of its temperament, it does not allow a judge (stranger) to touch it at dog shows....

Fila Brasileiro Keeping
The fila is always adapting to its environment. It can be kept in the garden, in a farm environment or even in the house. It will do well anywhere as long as it can be with its owner on a regular basis. It will not be a well-balanced filas and its character will not develop properly if, when it is a puppy, its owner only meets it when it is fed and constantly regulated. From a husbandry point of view, they are not particularly demanding, but it is very important to spend time with them, and of course, to spend time together as adults.
