Fila brasileiro
Get to know the Fila brasileiro dog breed
"People think of themselves as the master of the Fila, but the Fila thinks of its master as God."
The primary purpose of this website is to get to know the fila brasileiro: its origins, appearance, care, traits from someone who has had the breed for 20 years, but whose love goes back even further.
The Braganza kennel is currently inactive, I lost my last elderly fila in the spring of 2024, but as she and her ancestors have been involved in a significant part of my life and its development, I would like to introduce them to you so that they are not completely forgotten.
Fila Brasileiro History
The fila brasileiro is a not very old dog breed, country of origin is Brazil. As a type, however, it may have existed for hundreds of years and its ancestors are undoubtedly dogs brought by immigrants.
Fila Brasileiro Temperament and character
It has a dipolar character, which distinguishes it from other dog breeds. He is very affectionate with his family, but very distrustful of strangers. A typical behaved Fila should have these main qualities.

The appearance of fila brasileiro
The fila is a member of the molosser family, but differs from its other relatives in many ways.
Fila Brasileiro Standard
The Fila has two standards: one adopted by the FCI and one by CAFIB
What Fila Brasileiro looks like
The melancholic facial expression, the head most resembling a pear, the movements resembling a big cat and the special rump shape give the breed a unique appearance.
I was 20 years old when I owned my first fila and I have kept puppies from almost every litter since then.
Fila Brasileiro Males and Females
They are listed on a separate page. Of the females, Dandara still lives with me.

Sometimes owners have a change of circumstances and unfortunately it's always the dog who suffers.

Filas in need of help
If you know of a fila in trouble, please contact me.

Since I was very young, I've had a close bond with animals, especially dogs. It's probably in my genes because I was drawing horses and dogs when I was a few years old and at the age of 6, when my parents asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said dog breeder....
...I was looking for something else. I wanted a good guard dog who loves his family very much but is distrustful of strangers, so I chose the fila brasileiro. The breed was not completely unknown to me, as I knew hundreds of breeds from my dog books and dog magazines. I first met a Fila when I was 13 years old in 1996....
In 2003 I became the owner of Tor, a sandy yellow fila male. Through him I was introduced to the dog show world and started to learn the breed. In spring 2006 I imported a female from Serbia, whose parents were from Brazil....
..But as a fila brasileiro keeper, I think it's important to respect the character of the breed, not to impose what it doesn't want and to create conditions in which it feels comfortable.
